Heart-lung transplantation
Heart-lung transplantation was first undertaken in 1981, it is indicated for patients suffering from pulmonary hypertension, including:
- primary pulmonary hypertension
- secondary pulmonary hypertension resulting from e.g.:
- recurrent pulmonary emboli
- emphysema
- cystic fibrosis
The survival rates are:
- 80% 1 year survival
- 65% 5 year survival
