Treatment

Authoring team

Life before surgery is by sustaining the patency of the ductus arteriosus.

Surgical treatment involves a two stage approach to create a situation in which the right ventricle supports the systemic circulation and the pulmonary circulation is reconstructed without a ventricle. This technique is not popular in the UK.

Alternatively cardiac transplantation may be undertaken.

Both procedures have a high mortality.
