Indications in acute retention
Indications include:
- a painful, distended bladder that demands urgent relief
- to exclude post-renal failure in patients with anuria
It is best to wait for the patient to pass urine naturally. Conservative measures such as privacy, running water, standing up, may be sufficient to promote micturition.
