Kininase enzymes break down kinins. There are two:

  • kininase I:
    • a serum carboxypeptidase with low affinity
    • it also inactivates complement components C3a, C5a and C4a
  • kininase II:
    • an alternative term for angiotensin converting enzyme
    • predominantly found in the endothelium of the lung
