Side effects include:-

  • throbbing headache
  • flushing
  • dizziness
  • postural hypotension
  • sinus tachycardia

Side effects are minimised if the patient swallows sublingual GTN as soon as the pain is relieved.

There is a problem with tolerance if transdermal patches are left in place continuously. Removal of the patch at night may prevent this.
