Oral progestogens are prone to first pass metabolism. Within the liver, they are metabolized to:

  • pregnanolone
  • pregnanediol

Both compouds are then conjugated with glucuronic acid and excreted in urine.

Within the blood, they are bound to albumin. Some storage of progestogens may occur in adipose tissue.
