Femoral triangle
The femoral triangle region is palpated during examination of the hip. The patient is positioned supine with the hip joint slightly flexed, abducted and externally rotated. This can be achieved by placing the foot of the side being examined onto the contralateral knee. This position accentuates the structures of the triangle:
- inguinal ligament
- femoral artery
- femoral nerve
- femoral vein
