Classification of vasculitides
The primary axis of classification of the vasculitides is according to the size of the affected vessels: (1)
- large arteries
- medium arteries
- small vessels
The antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitides (AAV) are three separate conditions: (1,2)
- granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA - formerly known as Wegener's granulomatosis)
- microscopic polyangiitis (MPA).
- eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA - previously known as Churg-Strauss syndrome)
