Cholinergic urticaria

  • this is a distinctive condition in which numerous intensely itchy, pin-head papules develop some 10 minutes after sweating (during physical exercise, taking a bath, raising the body temperature, and during emotional stress)
  • typically it can be seen in young adults
  • susceptible individuals show an exaggerated response to the introduction of ACh derivatives to the skin (1)
  • severe attacks are followed by a refractory period of 1-2 days. Some times it may be associated with by angioedema and anaphylactic reactions (1)
