Transmission of HHV-8

Authoring team

The precise way in which HHV-8 is transmitted is not known. It is known that it can be sexually transmitted by homosexual men but precisely what behaviour places them at risk is unclear. It is known that the virus is not shed in appreciable amounts in seminal fluid or the rectum, but that it is persistent in the oral cavities of some patients.
