Non-specific
Aetilogy:
- repeated attacks of acute sinusitis in which nasal allergy, vasomotor rhinitis and hormonal dysfunction have been excluded
Bacteriology:
- mixed; streptococcus and anaerobes most common
Presentation:
- similar to acute forms but less severe
- frankly purulent or mucois postnasal or nasal discharge
- nasal obstruction
- headache
- anosmia
- constitutional upset - usually mild; malaise, loss of appetitie, sore throat, eustachian tube dysfunction
Treatment:
- decongestants - oral if used long term
- systemic antibiotics
