Imaging in liver disease
Imaging techniques provide useful information in disorders of the liver.
Techniques which are of particular importance include:
- plain radiography:
- 10% of gallstones are radio-opaque
- some liver cysts calcify
- air may be visible in the biliary tree or under the diaphragm
- there may be a subphrenic collection of pus visible
- contrast studies
- ultrasound
- CT and MRI
- ERCP
- angiography
- isotope scans
