Liver resection
The liver is divided into eight segments, each with their branches of the arterial, venous and biliary systems. Partial liver resection involves removal of a limited number of liver segments.
Advances in surgical technique have reduced:
- the need for blood transfusion - now only required in 40% of cases
- overall mortality to 5%
