Clinical features of acute appendicitis in children

Authoring team

Children with acute appendicitis manifest:

  • vomiting
  • anorexia
  • inability to sleep
  • increased bowel sounds

It is best to examine the patient's abdomen by applying pressure on top of their own hand. This reassures the patient, and areas of tenderness are marked by an unwillingness for the patient to continue with palpation.
