Subtotal villous atrophy
Villous atrophy is a histological appearance, where the small intestine has flat mucosa and crypt hypertrophy.
There are a number of causes, in descending order of frequency:
- coeliac disease
- post enteritis syndrome
- cow's milk protein intolerance
- giardiasis
- immune deficiency states
