Pharmacological therapy
Vital considerations when using drugs in cardiac resuscitation include:
- administration:
- rate
- repeat doses
- onset
- flushing with a bolus of normal saline
- pharmacokinetics:
- elimination
- distribution - volume of distribution
- endotracheal administration:
- some drugs are contraindicated
- the drug should be diluted to 10ml
- American recommendations are for doubling the drug dose; not a recommendation in the UK
