The important features to recognise are those of clinical meningitis, combined with an unusual cerebrospinal fluid analysis.
Typically there might be:
- cellular profile of an infection:
- raised polymorphs or lymphocytes
- biochemical profile of infection - lowered glucose
- absence of organisms
