Principles
The following principles are meant to apply to all parts of the act:
- the welfare of the child is paramount
- there should be a minimal delay in proceedings pertaining to children; delay and uncertainty will be detrimental to a child
- court orders should only made if they are of benefit over not making an order
- courts should consult a welfare checklist.
