Side effects
Common side effects:
- headache, nausea, vomiting, diplopia, dizziness, ataxia
Others side effects:
- rash, generally maculopapular, occurs in 5% of patients early during treatment, and usually in the first month. This side effect particularly occurs if patients are taking sodium valproate, which inhibits lamotrigine metabolism. The rash usually spontaneously resolves once lamotrigine is withdrawn. However, in some instances, there is associated arthralgia, myalgia, fever, lymphadenopathy, eosinophilia, or malaise. In a minority, there may be the development of bullous erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or angio-oedema
