Clinical features
The condition is usually asymptomatic. Visual disturbances may result from encroachment on the pupillary area. It may suddenly be noticed by the patient and present as a red eye.
Examination reveals the redness is within yellowish, fleshy scar tissue. Pteygium are more commonly situated on the nasal side of the conjunctiva. The wings-shaped or pointed tissue extends onto the peripheral cornea.
