Differential diagnosis
Differential diagnosis includes:
- haemorrhagic shock and encephalopathy. Differentiation is by measurement of ammonia - very high in Reye's syndrome, only slightly raised in haemorrhagic shock and encephalopathy, and liver biopsy, which invariably shows fatty infiltration in Reye's syndrome, rarely in haemorrhagic shock and encephalopathy
