Preparation
- imaging - require both a KUB and an IVU to identify areas of calcification and to outline the anatomy of the urinary tract
- analgesia - usually, a combination of diclofenac and pethidine; less analgesia is needed for piezoelectric lithotripsy as it tends to be less painful than other methods of lithotripsy
- sedation - some surgeons elect to give a benzodiazepine prior to treatment
- antibiotic prophylaxis - for example, ciprofloxacin
