Corpus luteum cyst

Authoring team

This arises when there is excessive bleeding into a follicle which has shed its ovum. It is usually more firm than an ovarian follicular cyst.

The corpus luteum cyst usually maintains it's secretion of progesterone, and often, causes a delay in the onset of the next period which tends to be heavier than usual. It may also cause iliac fossa pain and peritoneal irritation.
