Candida infection of the nail often causes chronic paronychia.
The appearances are those of chronic paronychia with loss of the cuticle and commonly proximal nail involvement. The nail folds appear red, shiny and bolstered and pus may leak from the nail margin. The distal portion of the nail may later become affected and the whole nail may become dystrophic. The nail may become discoloured white, green or occasionally black.
