Alphaviruses are responsible for:

  • fever, rash, myalgia/arthralgia and lymphadenopathy syndromes:
    • Chikungunya haemorrhagic fever
    • O'Nyong-nyong, Mayaro, Ross River, Sindbis viruses

  • encephalitis:
    • Eastern, Western and Venezuelan equine encephalitides
    • Semliki Forest encephalitis

All are mosquito-borne
