Clinical features
The clinical features of a pseudoseizure are, almost by definition, difficult to generalise. However, there are some common features:
- past or current medical history of true seizures
- bizarre or unusual features of the fit itself - vocalisations, moaning, odd postures
- remaining safe, despite apparent loss of contol - for example the patient falls to the floor and has a seizure in the only safe part of the room
- no incontinence, tongue biting
- normal reflexes - particularly pupillary - during the seizure
