Aetiology
Most hand infections are secondary to penetrating injury:
- splinters
- laceration primarily or secondarily infected
- penetrating trauma
- bites
- blisters
- hair folliculitis
- crush injury
- infection at site of hand dermatosis
- drug abuse
- abrasion
- idiopathic: in this group, forgotten trauma is probably the cause
