Treatment of joint injuries
Joint swellings should be aspirated - a procedure which can be both diagnostic and therapeutic.
Intra articular fractures require accurate internal fixation in order to prevent later development of OA.
Splintage of the joint - ranging from double tubigrip support (DTS) to backslab and POP cylinder.
Analgesia - strength dictated by the nature of the injury:
- weak analgesia - coproxamol, aspirin
- medium analgesia - diclofenac
- strong analgesia - opiates - e.g. pethidine
