Aneurysm (carotid artery)

Carotid artery aneurysms are rare. Those that do occur are either:

  • post-traumatic
  • atherosclerotic
  • post-carotid endarterectomy

Clinical features include:

  • pulsatile lateral neck swelling
  • carotid territory TIA's
  • rupture

Treatment:

  • excision of aneurysm followed by end-to-end anastomosis, graft insertion of patch angioplasty
