Indications
CT is indicated in the investigation of stroke where:
- there is doubt about the diagnosis:
- gradual onset or progressive neurological signs
- no clear focal neurological signs
- no clear history available
- there is a need to exclude cerebral haemorrhage - the scan must be done within 14 days of onset:
- current / planned anticoagulant treatment
- current / planned antiplatelet treatment
- current / planned thrombolytic treatment
- planned carotid endarterectomy / angioplasty
- there is a suspected cerebellar stroke with obstructive hydrocephalus:
- acute onset of unsteadiness with deterioration
