Infants are predisposed to IVH with the following factors:
- preterm: almost inevitable in the very preterm - incidence is roughly 90% in infants born at 23 weeks
- still in first week of life - in first day in 50%
- hyaline membrane disease and pneumothorax
- lesser predisposing factors include, for example, coagulopathy and intermittent positive pressure ventilation
