Bone defects may be apparent in the second trimester, e.g. achondroplasia and osteogenesis imperfecta.

Amniotic fluid volume may be estimated, allowing the qualitative diagnoses of oligo- or poly- hydramnios to be made.

Cleft lip can be visualised on scan during the mid pregnancy ultrasound scan. This is not part of the routine examination across England, but centres are working towards implementation of this.
