Clinodactyly is classified according to the extent of the inclination, the digit involved and whether there are any associated anomalies:

  • simple clinodactyly: bone deformity of middle phalanx with less than 45 degrees of angulation
  • simple complicated: bone deformity of 45 to 60 degrees angulation
  • complex:
    • bone and soft tissue deformity with less than 45 degrees of angulation
    • soft tissue deformity associated with syndactyly
  • complex complicated:
    • bone and soft tissue deformity of 45 to 60 degrees angulation
    • associated with polydactyly or gigantism
    • may be a rotational deformity of the digit
