Adduction of the hip is gauged in two ways. Firstly, a helper may be used to lift one leg out of the way while the leg being assessed is adducted from neutral across the midline. The normal range should be about 25 degrees. This is then repeated upon the other side. Alternatively, a coarser test involves crossing each leg, in slight hip flexion, across the other. They should cross about mid-thigh level.
