Management of heart failure in neonates
Treatment options include:
- diuretics - combination loop and potassium sparing diuretic
- nasogastric feeding with high calorie content
- digoxin may be helpful
In the seriously unwell child the following may be needed:
- hypotension - treat with dopamine infusion
- apnoeas may require ventilation
Surgery is indicated by heart failure not controlled by medical management.
