Appearance and behaviour
- dishevelled and unshaven
- cares for self only when others insist
- socially withdrawn
- odd and awkward behaviour such as talking to strangers or shouting obscenities in public
- may hoard objects
- in catatonic schizophrenia there may be periods of stupor or excitement
There may be repeated odd movements:
- those that are not goal directed are called stereotypies
- those that are goal directed are called mannerisms
There may be a disorder of muscle tone called waxy flexibility.
