Respiratory aetiologies
Respiratory causes include:
- lung carcinoma - not usually small cell carcinoma
- pulmonary fibrosis, especially fibrosing alveolitis
- cystic fibrosis
- chronic pulmonary suppuration, e.g.:
- bronchiectasis
- empyema
- lung abscess
- tuberculosis - typically within 6 weeks of onset
- pleural mesothelioma
