Prognosis
Some information concerning the prognosis in extrinsic allergic alveolitis is given below:
- the acute inflammatory reaction usually subsides over days to weeks, leaving minimal pulmonary fibrosis
- repeated exposure results in significant pulmonary fibrosis
- terminal complications of pulmonary fibrosis include respiratory failure and cor pulmonale
