Complications are very rare, but care must be taken with certain antibiotics before general anaesthesia:

  • penicillins and hypersensitivity reactions
  • cephalosporins:
    • interference with clotting factors
    • hypersensitivity
  • tetracyclines, aminoglycosides:
  • prolongation of neuromuscular blockade
