Aorto-duodenal fistula

This is a complication of surgery on an aortic aneurysm. It results from leakage of a false aneurysm at the upper anastomosis of the graft with the abdominal aorta into the overlying duodenum. This creates an aorto-duodenal fistula. This complication may also result from graft infection.

Patients present with haematemesis.

The investigation of choice is endoscopy to the fourth part of the duodenum.

Urgent surgical repair is necessary.
