Umbilical sinus

Authoring team

An umbilical sinus results from the persistence of the umbilical end of the omphalomesenteric - vitelline - duct. Close inspection reveals a sinus tract deep to the umbilicus whose morphology can be readily delineated with a sinogram.

Treatment is by excision.
