Acute
Acute is an adjective used medically to describe:
- a condition of swift onset or progression e.g. acute epiglottitis
- a condition which results in symptoms or signs which are severe e.g. acute abdomen
- a condition that typically has a relatively short duration e.g. acute inflammation
It should be contrasted with the adjective chronic.
