The functions of PSA are thought to be:
- dissolution of the seminal gel after ejaculation
- mediation of metastasis and invasion of prostate cancer
PSA in the serum is found as an proteolytically inactive complex with the serine protease inhibitor alpha1-antichymotrypsin.
