A lung abscess may follow:
- prior bacterial pneumonia, especially:
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Klebsiella / Friedlanders pneumonia
- tuberculosis
- fungal infection, for example:
- histoplasmosis
- actinomycosis
- parasitic infection, for example, amoebiasis
