Aneurysms (arterial)
An arterial aneurysm is a weak, bulging spot in an artery wall typically caused by high pressure, often leading to a balloon-like enlargement that can be life-threatening if it ruptures or tears (dissection).
Frequently occurring in the aorta (abdominal or thoracic), symptoms often only appear when they become large or burst, resulting in sudden, severe pain.
Types include abdominal aortic aneurysms, thoracic aortic aneurysms and peripheral aneurysms that occur in other arteries, such as the brain (cerebral), legs, or organs.
