Septation of chambers
The septation of chambers within the heart is secondary either to:
- growth of one or two cell sheets across the space which fuse with the opposite wall or with each other respectively
- relatively greater growth of the walls of the chamber compared to an existing ridge which partially spans the space
In the submenu, septation is considered by region within the heart; it must be emphasised that these processes are occurring simultaneously with each other and the growth of the heart:
- common atrium
- atrioventricular canal
- derivatives of the bulbus cordis
- ventricles
