Types of diuretic
They are subdivided into the following groups:
- thiazides and related diuretics
- loop diuretics
- potassium sparing diuretics
- osmotic diuretics
- mercurial - now out of use
- carbonic anhydrase inhibitors
In addition to these, combinations are used as follows:
- diuretic and potassium supplement
- diuretic and potassium sparing diuretic
