Diagnosis
At cardiac catheterization, the presence of pulmonary artery hypertension with a normal pulmonary capillary wedge pressure is diagnostic.
Primary pulmonary hypertension must be differentiated from Eisenmenger syndrome as well as from left-sided obstructive lesions resulting in secondary pulmonary venous hypertension - in these conditions the pulmonary arterial wedge pressure is significantly elevated.
