Large systolic waves are seen in the venous pulse during tricuspid regurgitation. In this situation, the right ventricular pressure pulse is transmitted to the right atrium and eradicates the normal wave pattern. The wave may increase in size during inspiration due to an increase in right ventricular stroke volume.
They are called CV waves because systolic waves combine both of these waves.
