Consequences in the recipient twin
The recipient twin may suffer:
- polycythaemia, with consequent hyperviscosity syndrome
- hypoglycaemia
- hypocalcaemia
- hyperbilirubinaemia
- thrombocytopaenia
- cardiac failure, which may be severe enough to cause hydrops
